The NSW gambling regulator has blocked Crown Resorts from opening its new $2.2 billion Sydney casino next month after a stunning 11th hour admission that criminals probably laundered dirty cash. The NSW Government shut down period will occur from Friday 25 December 2020 to Friday 8 January 2021. During this time contact with the Resources Regulator will be limited. Liquor and Gaming NSW is accountable for the development, implementation and integrity of the overall regulatory framework across alcohol, licenced clubs, charitable fundraising and gambling activities in NSW. An inquiry into allegations of money laundering at Crown won’t be released until next year, but the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority said the risk would be too great to allow the casino to open.

Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority Chairman Philip Crawford told Ben Fordham they’re “not comfortable” allowing the casino to open until the decision from the inquiry is handed down.
