Portugal Gambling License
Estoril Sol has been given a three-year licence to run online odds-type betting where the players play against the operator, it said earlier this week.
On 29 April 2015, the Portuguese government approved the law for online gambling in Portugal. Two years after the law came into force, Turismo de Portugal, which is responsible for this activity, had received 19 applications and attributed six licences. Online horse race betting is accessible to licensed operators, and is regulated by the RJO and supervised by the SRIJ. Online horse race betting operators can offer horse betting on races organised in Portugal or abroad, provided that the races are listed on the official list approved by the SRIJ.
The licence covers the internet site www.estorilsolcasinos.pt/ and is valid until 3 August 2020, unless it is renewed in the meantime.
Odd-type bets are bets where the gambler bets an amount of money against the operator based on preset odds.
Portugal has issued its seventh online gambling license as operators continue to believe they can make money online despite the government’s tax-heavy regime. Gambling in Portugal is legal and fully regulated. There are a number of land-based casinos, bingo halls, betting shops and other betting venues that are all licensed. Online gambling was legalized in 2015 and Portuguese online bettors can place bets with local online companies or with foreign sites.
