Minden resident Keith LaPaille had a queen-high straight flush in a Texas hold ’em game in the Carson Valley Inn Poker Room, but knew something was up when Claudia Skaggs from Stateline kept raising him.

“It was a great position to be in,” said LaPaille. “I knew I couldn’t lose because of the CVI Poker Room’s Bad Beat prize.”

His suspicions were confirmed when Skaggs showed her king-high straight flush and the $1,000 Bad Beat prize was spread out as it is whenever a four-of-a-kind or better hand is beaten by a higher hand. The prize of $500 goes to the beaten hand, in this case La Paille, and $300 goes to the pot winner Skaggs. The remaining $200 was shared among the remaining players at the table. Everyone was a winner.

Esther Bryant of Gardnerville won $1,000 when she hit a royal flush on a bonus poker game. Esther and her husband Ken Bryant have been lucky lately at the CVI. Ken won a portion of the Carson Valley Inn $1000 Bad Beat prize three weeks ago.

Other poker promotions at the Carson Valley Inn include a free bonus payout of $200 for any royal flush, $75 for any straight flush and $25 for any four-of-a-kind. All promotions are subject to guidelines posted in the poker room.
